What It Means to Follow Jesus

Following Jesus isn’t just about knowing facts about Him. It’s about surrendering your life and allowing Him to transform every part of you. Jesus said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23, NLT).

Following Christ starts with a decision—but it doesn’t end there. It’s a daily commitment to walk in obedience, even when it’s hard. It means setting aside personal ambitions and trusting God’s path. It’s living with open hands, saying, “Lord, Your will, not mine.”

Discipleship is costly. It calls for sacrifice, perseverance, and faith. But Jesus promises that following Him leads to real life—life filled with peace, purpose, and joy that circumstances cannot take away (John 10:10).

At Macedonia Baptist Church, we believe every believer is called to live as a disciple, not just a fan. That means we seek to know Jesus personally, obey His teachings, and help others come to know Him too. Following Jesus is a lifelong journey, but it’s one we never walk alone. He is faithful to lead, guide, and strengthen us every step of the way.

What Is Salvation? Understanding God’s Gift

Salvation is the greatest gift ever offered to humanity. Yet many people misunderstand what it really means. Some think it’s about being good enough. Others think it’s a reward for living a moral life. The Bible teaches something very different.

Ephesians 2:8–9 says, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

We all fall short of God’s perfect standard (Romans 3:23). Left to ourselves, we would remain separated from God. But because of His love, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live a sinless life, die in our place, and rise again so we could be forgiven and restored.

Salvation happens when we personally place our trust in Jesus—believing He died for our sins and rose again. It’s not about what we do; it’s about what Jesus has already done.

Living saved means living in the freedom Christ provides. It means growing in relationship with God, walking in the Spirit, and resting in the security of His promise. If you’ve never received this gift, today is the day to believe and receive what only Christ can give.
